I am sorry to note that the senate is being blamed for bringing post tenure review back on the table.
The Regents are asking for this and Jischke likes to respond to the Regents with what they want. The senate is trying to develp a policy that is least offensive and least demanding of preparation time for faculty. For many depts there will be no change required. The depts decide how they want to handle the review and this could be just an annual review by the DEO.
Several people have suggested that this is the first step towards loss of tenure and academic freedom. My view is that to deny the Regents' request is a giant step towards loss of tenure, academic freedom and mutual trust. In addition, the administration would develop a policy that would likely be almost what the senate has developed but we would have lost ground in future dealings with the administration.
Finally, there is really no reason for the senate to act as mailman. Anyone can use mail lists that wants to. I do not understand why it is important for the senate to forward messages.
